Working Across Borders To Build Healthier Communities..
Family Physicians Leading Global Health Equity.
A family physician is trained to adapt to, serve, respond to, and be accountable to the context and needs of communities, depending on the epidemiology of diseases, demographic realities, and socioeconomic resources of the population.
Cervical Cancer Screening Uptake
In collaboration with the doctors, clinicians, and social workers at Gynocare, we seek to gain a better understanding of the barriers to screening uptake and the use of simple technology to improve screening uptake and successful early intervention.
Longitudinal, equitable, bidirectional, knowledge sharing and skills development between medical residents at St. Vincent’s Family Medicine Residency Program and the medical and clinical officers at Gynocare Women & Fistula Hospital.
Medical Education, Knowledge Sharing & Skills Development
The incidence and prevalence of non-communicable diseases is progressively increasing in Kenya. Universal Health Care continues to be a priority agenda policy of the Kenyan government, in line with the World Health Organization’s Sustainable Development Goals. Our goal is to set up a non-communicable chronic disease management clinic, conduct screening medical camps to raise awareness, and connect patients to longitudinal care at Gynocare’s outpatient clinic.
Non-Communicable Chronic Disease Management
“It is heartbreaking to see women come in with advanced cervical cancer, receive radiation, and end up with fistulas as a result. As we work to support the women and girls affected by fistula, we must work just as hard to prevent them. ”
— Dr. Hillary Mabeya - Lead Fistula Surgeon and President of Gynocare Women & Fistula Hospital
